OWN's Greenleaf is back for its fifth and final season on Tuesday, June 23. This popular drama series set in Memphis, follows the life of the Greenleaf family and their operation of the mega church, Calvary. Its combination of dramatic plot twists, interesting family dynamics and poignant behind the scenes look at life for an African American christian family is absolutely riveting. Its focus on the teachings of the Bible and fantastic gospel music really make it a stand out show. Let's rewatch our favorite episodes and enjoy the premier with some tasty bites and cocktails.
"Hominy and Hops"
See what I did there? lol! The Greenleafs were devastated when they lost their family church, Calvary, to the church chain, Harmony and Hope. Bryan Richard's delicious shrimp and grits recipe infused with beer is a very interesing paring. The recipe can be found here courtesy of www.beercraft.com
Memphis Style Ribs
Chefs Gina and Pat Neely may have had more drama in their relationships than all the Greenleafs combined. But they have some absolutely delicious recipes in their arsenal. This recipe for Memphis style beef and pork ribs will make you say "Amen!"
Lady Mae's Cake
Lady Mae is the matriarch of the Greenleaf family. She rules with equal parts grace and sharp tongue. But she loves her family and will do anything for them. This ice box cake recipe courtesy of The Cooking Channel uses lady fingers and is as beautiful as Lady Mae herself.
Red Wine (Communion)
Pair all of this with your favorite red wine! After all, Jesus did turn water into wine....so that makes it OK.
